Four Seasons is Richard’s latest choral
work, a compelling retrospective that evokes joy and transition.
Richard writes:
“Filled with folk songs—Flunky
Jim, Land of the Silver Birch, Good night, Irene—and memories
and reflections, Four Seasons is my homage to my childhood
on the Alberta Prairies.”
Like Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, this work
is in four movements—one for each season.
“The style of music is what I call
‘traditional Canadian choral folk music’ reflected
through my own particular jazz and world music sensibility.”
Written for a cappella SATB, the piece also
incorporates simple clapping rhythms.
