Many years ago in a place nearby,
A guru decreed that the children might die
Made ill by the heat, or maybe the air
The Rajah believed they’d be safer elsewhere
And so... they were sent far away,
Banished!
All girls and boys went away,
Vanished!
Far, far away
To a climate so cool
Oh, that Rajah, he could be so cruel
They had fine furs, plenty to eat
Thick books to read, new friends to meet
But sick at heart, full of care
For the Rajah believed they were safer there
From their pets and ayahs,
Banished!
Mamas and their dear Papas,
Vanished!
Far, far away
In a climate that was cool
Oh, that Rajah, he was cruel
First they’re born
Then they play
Then they get too big to stay
Girls and boys we once knew
Leave their toys
Suppose it’s true
What becomes of English children
Ev’ry English house right here in Bombay,
Ladies fret the climate, and long for skies of gray
Worry for the children, amid the foreign air
The fathers are told they’d be safer elsewhere
And so... they are sent far away,
Banished!
Like those before who went away,
Vanished!
Far, far away
To a climate so cool
To that place called
school
Banished!
Far, far away
To a climate that is cool
To a place called
School!
