LAVINIA
Judging from those shabby clothes,

JESSIE
Her shoes now all worn out,

LAVINIA
That Crewe girl’s nothing special,

JESSIE
That’s been proven, without doubt

SCHOOLGIRLS
Judging from her errands
Through miles of mud and muck!
That Crewe girl’s nothing special
And she’s at last run out of luck

Judging from her lowly rank
Cook scolds and gives her orders
That Crewe girl’s nothing special
Not like us rightful boarders!

LAVINIA
Judging from her new ‘best friends’

SCHOOLGIRLS
The scullery maid and mice

ERMENGARDE (Trying to defend Sara)
I hear she still makes up stories

LAVINIA
And tells them to her lice!
